Watercolour & Calligraphy
Everything that has to do with art and beauty have always been my biggest interest. Modern calligraphy and watercolour painting have become such a hype with many artists present talent through the Instagram. I started with taking a calligraphy class with friends back in December 2016, learning the foundation skills such as basic stroke and how to handle the mighty pen and nibs. It was such a therapeutic session, and we decided to take on a floral watercolour class in January 2017. It was fun but I had to keep the brushes away since, due to my work schedule and hundreds excuses.
It wasn’t, however, until the last week of working in Singapore. I had farewell gifts prepared for my wonderful colleagues, and it suddenly crossed my mind that hand-painted cards would add a sincere and heartening touch. I then painted 16 cards in 3 days (with only short sleep in between). Each card was drawn with an item that represented our connection – their personality, things they love, subject that we talked over and over, and reminded them of our friendship. I could not be any happier learning how much they appreciate it 🙂
My confidence with handling brushes grew from there, and I have been practising my painting skills from time to time after moving to Christchurch. I have since painted cards occassionally for wedding, baby-born, anniversary, christmas, easter and mother’s day. My next goal is to paint cards to support stores that generate profits for community programs in New Zealand.
